To mark the 27th anniversary of Falun Gong practitioners’ peaceful resistance to the Chinese Communist Party’s (CCP) persecution, and to express support for the more than 463 million Chinese people who have renounced their membership in the CCP and its affiliated organizations—the Communist Youth League and Young Pioneers—Falun Gong practitioners in New York will hold a large-scale parade in Manhattan’s Chinatown on Sunday, July 19, beginning at 1:00 p.m.

On Monday evening, July 20, practitioners will also gather in front of the Chinese Consulate in New York for a musical candlelight vigil honoring those who have died during the past 27 years as a result of persecution for their spiritual beliefs. Organizers are calling on the international community to pay closer attention to, and help bring an end to, the CCP’s decades-long persecution of Falun Gong.

Sunday, July 19 – Grand Parade

Participants will assemble at 11:00 a.m. on Mott Street, between Grand Street and Canal Street. The parade will officially begin at 1:00 p.m.

Parade Route: South along Mott Street, passing Lin Zexu Square, continuing onto East Broadway and Eldridge Street, before concluding on Hester Street at approximately 3:00 p.m.

Monday, July 20 – Candlelight Vigil

From 6:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m., practitioners will gather in front of the Chinese Consulate for a public rally, group meditation exercises, and a musical candlelight vigil commemorating Falun Gong practitioners who have lost their lives over the past 27 years because of their adherence to their faith.

Parade highlights

This year’s parade is expected to be one of the largest in recent years, featuring the Tian Guo Marching Band, a giant “Falun Dafa Is Good” banner, a large-scale model of the book Zhuan Falun, a giant Falun emblem, live demonstrations of the Falun Gong exercises, colorful flag formations, waist drummers, traditional dragon and lion dances, a model of Nine Commentaries on the Communist Party, displays calling for an end to the persecution of Falun Gong and forced organ harvesting, as well as themed contingents supporting the more than 463 million Chinese people who have withdrawn from the CCP and its affiliated organizations and the global EndCCP signature campaign. Organizers say the procession will present a solemn and visually impressive spectacle.

About Falun Gong

Falun Gong, also known as Falun Dafa, was introduced to the public in China by Mr. Li Hongzhi in 1992. Centered on the principles of Truthfulness, Compassion, and Forbearance, the practice is known for its meditation exercises and moral teachings, and was widely embraced in China for its reported health benefits and emphasis on personal character.

In July 1999, the CCP, under the leadership of then-party chief Jiang Zemin, launched a nationwide campaign to suppress the spiritual practice. The persecution continues today. For more than two decades, Falun Gong practitioners around the world have sought to raise awareness of the persecution and advocate for an end to the campaign through peaceful means.

Broadcast begins at approximately 1:00 p.m. EDT on July 19:

Organizers welcome members of the public to attend the events and show their support while drawing attention to the ongoing human rights situation in China.
